Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8

This scripture really resonated with me this morning as I was reading my Bible. I have been reading through Jeremiah which seems to be a very timely book during this season in the world. This scripture just gave me such peace. I thought this is EXACTLY where God wants us to be. “BLESSED is the one who TRUSTS in the LORD, whose CONFIDENCE is in HIM.” There are so many things that we could put our trust in right now; the stimulus from the government, the wisdom of medical professionals, the direction of our elected officials, etc. However, the scripture says we will be BLESSED IF we put our confidence in the Lord. That is really all we need to know, but the text continues on to create a picture of what that actually looks like.

“A tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream” Our roots should be planted firmly in Jesus. Just as the tree naturally grows towards what will provide nourishment; this is exactly how we should be with God. Our hope should be in HIM. Striving for what God has for us because it is all that we need. Again, the scripture could have ended here because it has already provided a vivid picture, but it continues….

“It does not fear when heat comes” “It has no worries in a year of drought”. When was the last time you saw a tree in fear or worry? The vision of a worried tree amuses me because I can hardly imagine it. But WE are so easily worried. “its leaves are always green” The trees don’t fear because they have drawn from the stream or grown deep in the earth to retrieve what they need to grow. Just as we should draw deep into the word and prayer to retrieve what we need to become strong.

And most importantly of all “never fails to bear fruit”. NEVER FAILS to bear fruit. Wow! If the tree (us) sends out it’s roots by the stream (God), it does not fear because it is always provided for. Hence, we are always provided for. It has no worries and BEARS FRUIT. That means that no matter what is happening in our world, circumstances, families, body, etc we can still shine the love of God to everyone around us. We can still rest easy during the worst of life’s storms that he has things under control. We can trust that we will be provided for no matter what reality looks like. Through this attitude we can show people our peace in Christ, even when we have no worldly reason to have any hope at all.

Therefore, trust in the Lord and place your confidence in him. If this is new to you, what do you have to lose? Pray that God will show you he exists in a tangible way. If you do trust in the Lord, but get distracted by the pulls of this world; you are not alone, but redirect your heart and thoughts. Place your trust and confidence solely in him, then do not worry or fear. I can almost guarantee you will bear fruit from the peace that you now operate within.
